Win the Fight for Your Life – Part 2

Planning
The planning process starts with considering the potential threats posed by various environments, situations, and people. As a result of this process, you will also enhance your level of awareness, as previously discussed. After evaluating these dangers, you can develop strategies
or plans to address them. These plans will encompass communication techniques, physical interventions, and the use of weapons. It’s advisable to share these plans with your loved ones. If you encounter a violent situation, your family and friends should understand your intended actions or, more importantly, what you might expect from them.
Communications Techniques
In simple terms, words matter. You must prepare for what you will say when confronted with a threat. First, you might say something that could de-escalate the situation. Second, you can inform the attacker of your ability and intention to take action against them. Lastly, you should alert others to the threat and your need for assistance.
Effective communication is crucial to your planning before, during, and after an event. However, each situation is unique. Some threats demand immediate action, and communication efforts might hinder the necessary physical response. In short, don’t waste time talking when you should be taking action.
Physical Interventions
Your strategy should include physical options along with verbal choices. One technique to consider is your ability to retreat. Can you escape the situation without further endangering yourself or others? I know what some of my “alpha” types are thinking: “I don’t run!” Don’t view it as running; think of it as a “tactical relocation.”
Seriously, escaping is a viable option and may prevent further confrontation. Most importantly, and depending on where you live, efforts to retreat may be legally required before you are justified in using force.
Physical options are not limited to escape. You may choose to fight. Perhaps you participate in a structured fighting style or discipline, ranging from boxing to mixed martial arts and everything in between. You can use your physicality as a means of defense. Your physical presence may dissuade the attacker, or you may be forced to fight.
Weapon Applications
Perhaps you have decided to equip yourself with a weapon system. It could be pepper spray, a TASER® weapon, or a handgun. You need to plan for their use. Each person must consider how they will be carried, drawn, and utilized. Merely possessing the weapon is not enough; you must strategize when and how it will be deployed.
Regardless of your choice, you should consider the attack, potential responses, and plan accordingly. I strongly recommend learning what your laws require and incorporating them into your planning and training process.
Training
Training is undoubtedly a crucial element in enhancing your awareness level. Moreover, the mistakes made during training will help you learn to recognize and address dangerous situations, environments, and individuals. As a result, this heightened awareness will enhance threat identification and assessment.
Similarly, physical performance and
weapon skills are developed and enhanced through quality training. From open-hand control techniques to shooting, your training will help transform actions into conditioned responses. This means that your movements and weapon applications become part of who you are and no longer require conscious thought. In other words, developing conditioned responses should be the ultimate goal of any effective training program.
In conclusion, your training will refine and improve your planning process by developing awareness and enhancing physical performance. You will identify and strive to exceed your current observational and performance limits. Your awareness, planning, and training will ultimately empower you to win the fight for your life.
